NEW MUSIC ALERT!!! Steven Mercyhill’s “You Are Your Own Undoing”
Alternative rock recording artist, Steven Mercyhill, has offered up a feast for your senses with “You Are Your Own Undoing”, the first single and music video from his upcoming debut album, Nonfiction.
“You Are Your Own Undoing” will leave you filled with a heady sense of longing, yet curiously fulfilled at the same time. There is a simultaneously pure and sophisticated melody that is delivered throughout an expertly structured song. Add the video, which you will want to watch repeatedly, and you have something that will mesmerize you to the point that you will need a time-out to get back to reality.
Steven Mercyhill’s dark and edgy sensibilities can be readily seen and heard throughout this powerful and compelling piece which centers on themes of abandonment and loss. Shot over a period of several months in locations that include Cleveland’s notoriously haunted, and gorgeously decayed, House of Wills, an achingly forgotten, dilapidated, amusement park, and the glorious ruins of the now demolished, St. Joseph’s Byzantine Church, the music video unveils a rich tapestry of imagery and surrealism that is both gripping and moving to watch and to listen to.
Mercyhill wrote, directed and edited the video himself. Award-winning experimental filmmaker, Robert Banks, was primary Director of Cinematography, Andrew Thames, was secondary Director of Cinematography, with additional photography generously provided by Scott T. Morrison.
For his upcoming album, Nonfiction, Steven has enlisted the talents of many respected music vets. His album boasts contributions from such notable producers and engineers as Sean Beavan (Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Pucifer), Michael Seifert (Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Tori Amos, Fountains of Wayne), Jim Stewart (Welshly Arms, Eddie Levert), Mastering Engineers Tom Baker (David Bowie, Ministry, My Chemical Romance), and Abbey Road’s Miles Showell (The Beatles vinyl remaster, Portishead, The Church).
