JUNE 30, 2022 (United Kingdom) — Two of Northampton’s rising stars deliver the song of the summer, as singer-songwriter Maddox Jones teams up with Afropop artist Great Adamz for “Chasing Moments.” Blending elements of an South African Amapiano house music vibe and Nigerian Afrobeats with alt-pop guitars and melodic singalong hooks into an instantly engaging musical cocktail, the new collaborative single is available everywhere today (June 30) viaRadikal Records.
Both making waves in their respective music scenes and garnering support from BBC Radio 1Xtra/Radio 2 play, the artists met at the at the Northamptonshire Local Music Awards in 2022 where Great Adamz also won Pop Artist of the Year. After instantly hitting it off, Adamz and Jones began writing together and recording at Plastic Tree Studios owned by David Crawford who also produced the track.
With Afropop becoming more popular by the day both in the UK and USA and producing crossover Pop Hits for artists such as Burna Boy, Rema, Wizkid and Fireboy DML, the infectious “Chasing Moments” has the potential to get Maddox Jones and Great Adamz lots of attention and win them lots of fans with their first collaborative release and should easily end up one of the Hits of the summer of 2023.
“I’ve absolutely loved being involved in this collab,” states Jones. “Afro pop is a genre that I’ve always enjoyed listening to and to get the chance to work Great Adamz has been amazing. ‘Chasing Moments’ is a pure summer jam that I personally can’t get out of my head. Try listening to this one without wanting to dance, it’s impossible.”
Adamz views music is his safe space and with “Chasing Moments,” he’s hoping to share the sounds of Afrobeats and his influences to new listeners. “I have always thought of Afro pop as a medium to express your sound how best you hear it,” Adamz states. “Working with Maddox Jones has proven that, because I can totally hear his originality in the song, even though it’s a genre he hasn’t done before.” Adamz echos the statement that “Chasing Moments” was made for the summer saying, “all I think of is cocktails and palm trees when I hear this song.”
Maddox Jones started his solo venture back in 2020 with the critically acclaimed Headspace EP, reaching #4 in the iTunes Singer/Songwriter Chart. Having already built a career that included four Top 40 hits as well as playing at Reading and Leeds Festival and Glastonbury with indie-rock group, The Departure, Maddox has been making a name for himself as a singer-songwriter and was tipped as “One to Watch” in 2022 by BBC Introducing.
Aside from working on his sophomore album, Jones has been invited to co-write with artists such as Billy Lockett, Janet Devlin, RIP Youth along with producing an unofficial anthem for the recent World Cup which drew lots of attention for himself and his featured guest The Wealdstone Raider. Most recently, he released the single “We All Need Somebody” in support of Mental Health Awareness Week and inspired by the many students he’s met by giving motivational speeches at schools all over the United Kingdom since last summer.
Great Adamatie (a.k.a. “Great Adamz”) is a fast-rising artist in the UK. Born in Warri Delta state of Nigeria, he is gaining interest from the industry elite due to his afro sound and incredible vocal tune. This interest has earned him the Golden Star Award in 2021 along with a Top 20 spot at the MOBO Award Unsung Class of 2022. National Radio and TV play from BBC 1Xtra, KISS FM, MTV Base Nigeria, and HIPTV helped him take home Pop Artist of the Year at the Northamptonshire Local Music Awards in 2022, and he continues to build upon this success with more music and collabs planned for 2023.
