Interview with ANTISAINT frontman Matthew Whiteman.
1- How does it feel to be selected to play at Download Festival 2023
- There’s a couple of things on my bucket list, one of them is playing a major festival. For that to happen, is so exciting. I’m trying to take it just like any other show, but it’s definitely not, so for now I’m keeping my head down and going to work on preparing for the big gig!
2-What are some of the influences that inspired you to become a musician ( as a band or personally)
- When I was really young 6 or 7, I was introduced to rock, my parents took me to a Def Leppard show, and it was unlike anything I’d experienced before. The energy and entire experience overall was an easy persuasion to my young mind…if only they told me the amount of work it would take!
3-How has the response been with the release of Vaticinate.
- The fans are digging it! I get told how it stands out among the recent releases across the genre. How it doesn’t sound like everything else on the airwaves. We can credit that with how we recorded the songs. We wanted a more traditional approach and not an overly processed sound.
4-Touring has become a challenge for a lot of bands, what seems to be the biggest challenge for bands in 2023.
- There are a lot of challenges to deal with: inflation, corporate radio, social media. The music industry is definitely not what it was 30 years ago! There’s so much more work that the old rock stars never had to deal with! Not to mention the 3 years of bullshit during the pandemic. Thankfully we’re past those times and can move on to bigger and better things.
5- In this day of digital music platforms Spotify, Apple Music, How difficult is it for you as a band to get people to buy CD’s.
- I’ve given up on the idea that I will ever receive a platinum record. What you have to do these days is think of the CD as a commemorative item and not your main product. The special edition of Vaticinate is something more than just a single CD in a shitty plastic jewel case. It’s the whole package, a triple CD with holographic designs, special laser treated finish, tons of artwork. It’s for the fans that really want to support us. You can’t beat the convenience of the streaming platforms, so giving the fans something special is the way to do it.
6- What would your Dream tour be as a band.
- You know I could probably list a bunch of bands and it would be easy to say that a tour with them would be a dream. But I think the dream tour would be one where ANTISAINT is the headliner selling out shows and giving undiscovered bands the opportunity we dream of. There’s a lack of support to grow the industry and I’ve always dreamt of being in the position to change that.
7- Any future touring plans That you can share with our readers.
- Have no clue. It’s too hard to say what is going to happen this year. One thing I can say is, new ANTISAINT is on the horizon.
