The Battle “Degenerate Era” Album Review

Strap on your headphones, close your eyes, and allow the magic that is The Battle to transport you to alternative dimensions of time and space! “Degenerate Era” is the third album from this band of eclectic rockers. I imagine you’ve all heard of them and if you haven’t – well – you’re welcome!

While I traditionally review every song on an album, I’m afraid I’ll give too much away this time. Instead, I’ll just tell you that this album is every good word I can think of. The songwriting, production, mix and mastering are all expertly accomplished. The musicians are clearly well seasoned and super innovative, and the hoo-haw is tasteful and outlandishly other-worldly.

I became profoundly lost in each song in a way that hasn’t happened to me for a very long time. I rejoiced, cried, raged a little, drifted into a wide-awake, but lucid dreaming state, and I didn’t want it to end.

That’s the thing with instrumentals, you are given the complete freedom to find your own meaning in each song. At the same time, I believe The Battle accomplishes an intentional guidance through the progression and vibe of each song, to sort of facilitate a journey for each listener to offer an experience that is brand new, and possibly even life-changing. I triple dog dare you to take a serious listen and then honestly tell me I’m wrong!!!

“Degenerate Era” consists of five songs that make up about an hour or so of your new heaven on earth. I can’t pinpoint my favorite of all the tracks, I’m leaning toward “She Lived in a City on the Moon”, but every other song is just as good, so I’ll have to keep thinking about that.
